Existing food review platforms like Zomato and Yelp offer general restaurant ratings, but they rarely provide dish-specific insights tailored to individual preferences. This leads to frustrating dining experiences where people order food that doesn’t match their taste, dietary needs, or expectations.
Yumify solves this problem with an AI-driven food recommendation engine that curates the best dishes to try at restaurants. By scanning open-source reviews, analyzing user preferences, and generating AI-powered food descriptions, Yumify provides a personalized, intelligent, and location-aware dining guide.

My Approach
When designing Yumify, the goal was to reimagine food discovery beyond generic star ratings and restaurant reviews. Instead of focusing solely on restaurants, Yumify shifts the spotlight to specific dishes, helping users decide what to eat rather than just where to eat. The platform integrates AI-driven personalization, location awareness, and deep review analysis to offer meaningful recommendations that feel personal rather than automated.
The design philosophy behind Yumify was simple:

Prioritize personalization so that users feel the recommendations align with their tastes.

I wanted Yumify to be more than just another food review platform—it had to feel intuitive, fun, and informative. AI should work behind the scenes, making the user experience seamless rather than overwhelming users with technical complexity. The design and functionality were built with aesthetic simplicity and innovative intelligence in mind.

AI-Generated Food Descriptions: Instead of relying on user reviews filled with mixed opinions, Yumify generates its own clear, engaging dish descriptions based on sentiment analysis. This helps users understand dishes quickly before making a decision.
Geolocation-Aware Recommendations: Whether a user is browsing from home or already seated at a restaurant, Yumify adapts its recommendations based on context. If they’re inside a restaurant, it highlights the top must-try dishes. If they’re exploring a new locality, it suggests trending dishes nearby.
User-Centered UI/UX: The interface is designed to be minimal yet interactive, making navigation smooth. The search experience is dynamic, allowing users to explore restaurants, dishes, and curated lists in a visually engaging way.
Identifying Unique Challenges
While conceptualizing Yumify, I recognized a few key challenges that needed to be addressed:
The challenge of trust in AI recommendations: Many users are skeptical of AI-generated suggestions, so the UX had to reinforce credibility through transparent review aggregation and user validation.
Balancing information overload vs. simplicity: Too much data can be overwhelming, but too little can leave users feeling uncertain.
